Sacramento, CA (October 13, 2025) – Governor Gavin Newsom vetoed AB 1064 (Bauer-Kahan), a measure that would have seriously impacted the future of AI development.

The American Innovators Network (AIN) issued the following statement from Executive Director Vanessa Day regarding the veto:

“We commend Governor Newsom for his leadership in vetoing AB 1064. Although the bill was well-intentioned, its broad and ambiguous language risked creating substantial unintended consequences. California needs forward-looking policies that both safeguard young people and empower them to thrive in an AI-driven world. We believe in fostering innovation while ensuring responsible development, and we remain committed to working with lawmakers to craft thoughtful, effective policy that strengthens California’s startup ecosystem and technological leadership.”
